Both Apple (Core ML) and IBM (Watson) have their own AI offerings, which they combined for an online/offline app offering for developers called Watson services for CoreML (WSCML).
Coca-Cola is going through IBM to access WSCML for damage identification and diagnosis in the field using cognitive technologies like visual recognition.
A major use of this tech is for technicians to image the problem and use the AI to quickly search an enormous knowledgebase for information that they might not be familiar with specifically. This saves what could be hours of search time and a frustrating situation.
#NewsRoomIdea Just the knowledgebase exploration capabilities attached to a sufficiently-large corpus of news articles would be an amazing resource for journalists.
#ToDo Start scraping - like, absolutely hoovering - ABC news articles.
From IBM:
As the technician is working on the job, data is captured. That data is then sent to the cloud once the device is back on the network, so Watson can learn from the interaction and make the learning available to other technicians in near real-time. Using the guided repair system, the technician is empowered to solve the problem the first time, increasing productivity, and elevating customer service – all without needing to call for assistance or reschedule the repair.
AR6 synthesis report
URL : https://www.ipcc.ch/report/sixth-assessment-report-cycle/
[[IPCC Sixth Assessment Report]] synthesis report.
The “synthesis report” contains no new science, but draws together key messages from all of the preceding work to form a guide for governments. The next IPCC report is not due to be published before 2030, making this report effectively the scientific gold standard for advice to governments in this crucial decade.
– Scientists deliver ‘final warning’ on climate crisis: act now or it’s too lat…
Monday’s final instalment, called the synthesis report, is almost certain to be the last such assessment while the world still has a chance of limiting global temperature rises to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, the threshold beyond which our damage to the climate will rapidly become irreversible.
– Scientists deliver ‘final warning’ on climate crisis: act now or it’s too lat…
Richard Allan, a professor of climate science at the University of Reading, said: “Every bit of warming avoided due to the collective actions pulled from our growing, increasingly effective toolkit of options is less worse news for societies and the ecosystems on which we all depend.”
– Scientists deliver ‘final warning’ on climate crisis: act now or it’s too lat…
Hoesung Lee, chair of the body, which is made up of the world’s leading climate scientists, made clear that – despite the widespread damage already being caused by extreme weather, and the looming threat of potentially catastrophic changes – the future was still humanity’s to shape.
– Scientists deliver ‘final warning’ on climate crisis: act now or it’s too lat…
This image from today's IPCC synthesis report is brutal. The existing policy trajectory represents a profound failure of our governments, and of our international political system. We need much more aggressive mitigation and much stronger international cooperation.

Araneo is a concept of a Spider Solitaire implementation I wanted to make. I want to write it for [[uxn]], as part of [[uxnerie]]. Summer 2023 was the timeframe I thought of originally. As my Spider Solitaire hyperfixation faded, so did my will to implement Araneo.
= Inspirations
- The Windows XP Spider is a classic.
- The [[Mac Spider]] is a pretty solid game.
- Gotta try the GNOME one: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/aisleriot
- [[links>237]]
= Card sprites Numerik [[drew 8x16 tiles]] for UXN-based card games, especially Solitaire. This is perfect.
= The Mac Spider The Mac Spider had the following interesting traits:
- No Hint.
- Clicking on a stack moves it to the most appropriate location. This alone is enough to make the game high-level and quite different. I want it.
- The completed stacks are not moved to base automatically.
= &c.
- Gotta store statistics.
- What is the game number generation algorithm?
- It's not as easy as it seems.
- I want the four suits to actually have four different colors. Not much left for the UI, since UXN supports no more than four colors at all.

I thought I would write a little bit about the mindset you need to have when going into Arch Linux. Dank memers made the arch installation process into something too hard, but really it's hazing. People who are willing to mess around with their computer in the terminal are likely willing to mess around with it more for fun. These are the people arch linux wants. Sometimes it works, sometimes what it get's is a bit different (neofetch users!). If you are a beginner who likes toying around and experimenting, Arch Linux wants you.
Don't be scared of the installer. It's not that bad. You will follow a tutorial or the big scary (but excellent) wiki. This time, it's some tutorial off youtube. You run cfdisk
, but things are not adding up. It opens /dev/sda

Postulated that each civilisation is composed of the same and similar people
Incan
Teotihuacan
-
dedicated to quetzalcoatl
-
200 bodies of sacrifices found at the foundation of the pyramid
-
dedicated with painted serpent masks
Mayan
300 - 800 CE; almost identified as the name of all ancient american civilization, but it was later realzied that distinct empires and cultures existed
economy: cultivation of maize based in the yucatan peninsula, mexico and guatemala cultivated maize, use llama suddenly collapses, then aztec empire rises a few hundred years later; gap unknown
picture and written language cannot be differentiated ;pictures are composed of small words, but large carvings as part of tablets are part of the writing themselves; there is no clear division between art and script - one and the same! i love this idea of continuity
palenque
temple of inscriptions
contains burial chamber of pacal, mayan king 9 levels of the underworld (on the outside), 13 representing heaven (stair decorations down to the burial chamber) form mimics a timber structure with thatched roof; carvings suggest wooden beams. mansard roof mimics the mayan hut: the weight on the top of the roof to hold the roof down is mimicked in stone, completely ordamental
extensive use of corbelled arches; replicates on the inside the interior of the peasant house, but constructed with more permanent materials.
ball court at copan
mayan founding myth: twins who play a sacred game, are decapitated, and are resurrected by outwitting the gods game involving inserting a rubber ball in stone hoops, (ritualized enactment of battle?) ritualistic, not for entertainment; losing team decapitated and sacrificed.
chichen itza
late mayan? maybe separate civilization (toltec)? the chacmool - a reclining sculpture of a warrior with a receptacle on the chest - may have been used for sacrificial offerings. maybe the heart?
El castillo pyramid (spanish term)
built to commemorate the completion of a time cycle; built over a smaller pyramid that can be reached from the new temple make 364 with 91 stairs on all of the four sides; the animal head makes 365 days in a year. likely for astronomical purposes. at spring equinox: pyramid casts a serpent-like shadoe over hte staircase on the dragon head side!
aztec people
tenochtitlan (present day mexico city) experts in landscaping; making the architecture merge with the earth myth: site was chosen by an eagle resting on a cactus tree in the middle of a lake. planned as a capital city of a huge empire
aztec "flowery war": perpetual warfare for supplying prisoners for sacrifice. (um..). spanish filled the lake, built a large catholic church in the city center to replace the aztec monuments
inca
today's peru cuzco: capital city at the joint of all four provinces of this civilization no horses, chariot, or cars; very carefully planned system of running and couriers covering 20,000 miles of roads. they built roads with the mountain, using parts of the mountain itself to construct this mountain so it becomes part of the landscape; this is in contrast to modern roads that will be disrupted and buried in a few years without maintenance. in this way, the mountain passages are almost easier to use and maintain than our highways today
cuzco
modeled in the shape of a puma (?) belly: ceremonial square; the head is formed by a ritual citadel. architecture is a reshaping of nature; leveraging the real environment to redesign a built environment comprehensively
new spanish city built over incan infrastructure; incans intentionally burned their city after conquest. incan bases will stand long after spanish buildings are gone no cement or concrete; each stone is custom-made to fit into the heighboring stones. dove-tailed to form mortarless and earthquake proof wall; staggering forces all of the stones to interlock
[in class, prof. asks 'what does this remind you of?' to prompt references to the past and *synthesis*]
they seem to mimic the landscape, using architecture as an extension and mimic of the landscape.
machu picchu
three day travel from cuzco; discovered in 1911. maintained after spanish conquest. thought to be royal estate rather than a city; "temple of the sun"
terraces to make place more hospitable, grow more food, etc hard to tell how much of fountain is human culture vs nature very subtle sculpting of natural rock: "just enough" to make functional and beautiful for humans.

Archiving my tweets in my garden with orger
I stopped using Twitter with any regularity a long time back now. I was never a big user of it. But I did for a while. Out of interest, I'm going to get my archive of old tweets and put them into my digital garden for posterity. I can use [[orger]] for this.
Log
- Install orger
- Install HPI
-
Setup HPI for Twitter - https://github.com/karlicoss/HPI/blob/master/doc/SETUP.org#twitter
-
Need to download Twitter archive - https://help.twitter.com/en/managing-your-account/how-to-download-your-twitter-archive
- Now I have to wait until they notify me about it being ready. How long does that take? Quite a while I guess. Maybe I come back to this tomorrow.
-
Need to download Twitter archive - https://help.twitter.com/en/managing-your-account/how-to-download-your-twitter-archive
Archive is ready now (I think it was ready somepoint yesterday, so let's say it took about a day to be produced).
-
Place my
twitter-2021-03-04-*.zip
file in~/Data/twitter-archives/
. -
Add the details to
~/.config/my/my/config/__init__.py
-
OK, that's HPI config done. Now use it with orger.
-
Copy https://github.com/karlicoss/orger/blob/master/modules/twitter.py
-
import my.twitter.all
->import my.twitter.archive
-
python3 twitter.py
And it works!

Arctic ice cap
This was a [[feedback loop]] with teeth. The Arctic ice cap, which at its first measurement in the 1950s was more than ten meters thick, had been a big part of the Earth’s [[albedo]]; during northern summers it had reflected as much as two or three percent of the sun’s incoming insolation back into space. Now that light was instead spearing into the ocean and heating it up.
Arctic permafrost
Arctic permafrost contained as much stored methane as all the Earth’s cattle would create and emit over six centuries, and this giant burp, if released, would almost certainly push Earth over an irreversible tipping point into jungle planet mode, completely ice-free;

Ares Corp. is an imaginary organization I imagined when I was something like 11 or 12 years old. I vaguely remember it was a corporation that built buildings and software, and also had a really big headquarters × laboratory, inspired by Aperture Science from the //Portal// series.
In [[2022]], while looking for self-identification, I remembered this image. I never really forgot it, actually. Ares Corp. is to be superceded by a different imaginary organization, that will symbolize my work. It won't be a Corporation, it will something else. There are many legal entity types, will spend some time choosing.
= Logo Ares Corp. has a good logo. See [[Ares logo]]. I remember modifying Minetest asset files and adding a pixelated version of it on blocks, and incorporating it in my buildings. I wonder if I can find the save file and the modified assets.
Ares logo is the logotype of [[Ares Corp.]] and its future successor. It's an orange circle with black bezel. Inside, there is a part of a planet, [[Mars]], to be exact, and a four-ray star.
It can also be used without the orange part, and also without the bezel. Just the planet cut and the star.
It may be not the best logo, but it works quite well, and I like that it's unchanged from 2014 or so. I like the continuity.
Since 2022 you can see it appearing on some of my art.
Ares Robotics is a department of [[Ares Corp.]] focusing on the development of commercial robots and robotic solutions. The price range is large, catering the needs of the most diverse clients out there. From elementary school classrooms, to weaponized military bases, Ares Robotics provides robots for all kinds of environments.
In this report, we try to collect all the available information on released robots.
The robots have this naming scheme: a number and two letters (the series). The known series are as follows.
=> TX series TX series robots are stationary robots mostly used for security and surveillance. They are not equipped with weapons.
=> LX series LX series are mobile robots with little or no weaponry. Mostly used for spying and bodyguard.

Big-budget, big cast, completely stupid disaster movie.
A bunch of Americans of dubious moral character are the only hope to save the planet from a stray asteroid.
They don't like environmentalists, and they don't like paying taxes. They've no time for all these scientists' horseshit. They bend the rules, break stuff, get the job done. They are American heroes!

= Distribution I will print it on A4 paper and fold it in half, thus making it A5. Around 20 pages might be good. I will print around 30 copies. This is quite a lot, actually. I will have to either pay a typography a lot of money to print it, or to craft the book manually. I am not good with joining paper stuff together.
I want to distribute it not only in my city and to my friends, but I want to send it abroad to good people there. Free book, paid shipping.

Art Blakey
Art I like
- Mounts Bay, Henry Moore
I started drawing around the same time I got in all this hypertextual business with [[wiki]]s. I find two reasons for this. First, I finally had a structured place to publish it all irregardless of my willingness to share it online. Second, I, just for fun, bought a couple of alcohol markers in an art supplies shop named after a famous polymath; I ended up loving this drawing tool more than anything else I tried in my life. So, the situation was as follows. I drew something and wanted to save it all in my wiki. [[Mycorrhiza]] is made in in such a way that every item requires //a name//. Thus we arrive to the unsolved problem of naming. In this note I'll outline the evolution of my approach to naming my arts.
=> https://merveilles.town/@bouncepaw/111695123228912102 | Discuss this article on Fediverse => /category/art | An extensive list of my publicly available art. It's too extensive.
= 2021—2023: Named indexed sketchbooks Wow, markers are fun! Now I need a sketchbook. Bought a funny tall sketchbook with cute rabbits on it. I thought of giving my sketchbooks names based on their covers. Giving a name in Russian or English is too boring. Something funky was required. What's more funky than the word //lapin//?^^1^^
And thus every sketchbook from then on received a name. For example,
- [[Lapin]] is French for rabbit. Or hare, not sure. The big-eared one.
- [[Quadrat]] is German for square. I never looked it up in any vocabulary, I just think I'm right with this one, because I saw the word //quadratisch// on a German-branded square chocolate bar. The sketchbook was square.
- [[Marmor]] is German for marble. The sketchbook had a marble-like image on the cover.
OK, the sketchbooks were indexed. What about the drawings inside? Well, I just added a number afterwards. For example, [[Lapin 74]]. Or, [[Quadrat 17]]. To keep the lexicographic order matching the numerical order, a zero is added to entries no. 1 to 9, exampli gratia [[Marmor 03]].
= 2020—[[Now]]: Inktober shenanigans During the graduate high school year I thought that drawing an [[Inktober]] would be fun. The 2020 one was the only one I did in time haha. Well, naming Inktober drawings was the easiest. It's word //Inktober//, followed by the year, a slash, a zero-padded number of the entry and the topic. Exampli gratia, [[Inktober 2020/11 Disgusting]] and [[Inktober 2023/11 Wander]]. I'm keeping this system for a while.
= 2021—2023: Random assorted drawings I did my best to draw everything either in Inktober or in the sketchbooks, so the naming was good. However, some of the drawings just magically appeared in random places! How do I name them!? I mostly settled on naming them with a timestamp and a random word describing it. Exampli gratia, [[Chito 2022-08-17]] and [[2022-06-27 Заводь]]. I didn't choose whether the date comes first or second. Physically, these drawings in a separate binder organised by semesters. There aren't many of these drawings.
=> Cyberrachel | Some drawings ended up in Cyberrachel's X-Files. They rarely do nowadays.
= 2024—Now: A New Kind of Naming System The named indexed sketchbook system wasn't actually handy. The biggest downside is to pick a number, I have to know the previous one. It's actually an issue because I don't publish everything to [[Melanocarpa]], a lot of drawings remain hidden from the internet. Also, such numerical names are not semantical at all.
So, at the dawn of the year, I chose a new system. It's not inventive or unusual in any way. In fact, many artists use it already. I just adopted it. The scheme is as follows: topic and number. Except I write the number with letters of the English alphabet instead of digits. So, A is 1, and Z is 26. I'm not sure what is 27 yet.
Having the topic in the name, they have some sense and can actually be remembered!
img { La Rue A { //La Rue A// was the first art with this scheme. Also, it was the first drawing made with colored markers in months. [[Inktober 2023]] was pretty monochrome. }}
Inktober naming remains as is though.
Let's see how well this system will work. The names for topics will be picked from funny languages, similar to how I name sketchbooks. And yes, the sketchbooks still retain the names.
P. S. I expect I will have a lot of arts with the topic //Pipe//.
= A month later OK, I feel the need to explicitly list out the topics I used by now.
- La Rue: roads, forests, deserts &c featuring small characters going somewhere
- As Viagens: big characters going somewhere or exploring
- Paysage: views on mountains, forests, lakes, &c; might feature characters
- Analog Nowhere: Analog Nowhere fan art
= Footnotes *. Many things are, in fact, more funky than the word //lapin//. It's just a figure of speech. An example of a funkier thing would be the Russian brand of cola //Funky Monkey cola//, which I rated very low in my [[cola top list]].

artificial cheapness of new products
It really, really shouldn't be cheaper to purchase an entire new product manufactured elsewhere in the world than it is to fix or replace one part locally.
Why are new products so cheap?

artificial scarcity
artificial general intelligence
Go back to the [[AI Glossary]]
A non-human mechanism that demonstrates a broad range of problem solving, creativity, and adaptability. For example, a program demonstrating artificial general intelligence could translate text, compose symphonies, and excel at games that have not yet been invented.
artificial intelligence
Go back to the [[AI Glossary]]
A non-human program or model that can solve sophisticated tasks. For example, a program or model that translates text or a program or model that identifies diseases from radiologic images both exhibit artificial intelligence.
Formally, machine learning is a sub-field of artificial intelligence. However, in recent years, some organizations have begun using the terms artificial intelligence and machine learning interchangeably.
